Gravatars

A number of web sites where content (e.g., posts, comments…) is tied to an individual via their email address make use of a Globally Recognized Avatar, or Gravatar. Setting up a Gravatar is quite simple.

  • You go to the sign up page of http://en.gravatar.com and enter your email address.
  • You’ll get a confirmation email to authenticate yourself.
  • Once you authenticate your email you can add images to your account and associate one to your email address. You then can set up other email addresses that you may have and associate images with them too.

The WordPress driven websites and corporate blogs that we develop make use of the Gravatar associated with the Author of a Post in order to display the Author’s image, technically their Gravatar, below the Post’s content. As such, you’ll want to make certain all your author’s create a Gravatar. If they don’t, then a simple shadow figure will be displayed instead.  Also, each author’s bio should be populated as this too is displayed below posts they have authored.
